About This Tool
The ImpressiPrint Magnet & Polarity Drive Tool was designed to make installing the 8 mm × 3 mm round neodymium magnets used in the rear magnet pockets of our compatible 3D-printed magnetic frame designs easier, faster, and more consistent.
The tool assists with holding, positioning, and initially seating the magnet into the frame's rear magnet pocket, giving you better control during assembly and helping streamline your production process.
Most importantly, the integrated magnet at the drive end of the tool helps you maintain consistent magnet polarity across your frame production.
When assembling multiple frames, maintaining the same polarity from frame to frame is important. The Drive Tool provides a simple, repeatable way to orient each magnet before installation and reduces the chance of accidentally installing magnets with reversed polarity.
NEW – Version 2 Design Update
We've made a small but helpful improvement to the drive end of the tool.
In the original version, the 8 mm × 3 mm neodymium magnet installed in the Drive Tool sat flush/recessed with the drive surface.
With Version 2, the magnet has been slightly elevated so it now extends approximately 0.5 mm from the drive surface.
This small adjustment provides better contact with the magnet being installed and gives you improved control when positioning and initially seating magnets into your 3D-printed frames.
It's a simple change, but one designed to make repetitive frame assembly easier and more controlled.
Important: The Drive Tool Is an Installation Aid
The Magnet & Polarity Drive Tool is primarily designed to:

The tool is not intended to guarantee that every magnet will be fully seated to its final depth.
Small dimensional variations are completely normal with FDM 3D printing. Differences in printer calibration, filament, extrusion/flow settings, material shrinkage, and other printing variables can cause some magnet pockets to print slightly tighter than others.
For this reason, there may be times when the Drive Tool successfully starts and positions the magnet but additional force is required to fully seat it.
If Additional Seating Is Required
We recommend beginning every installation with the Magnet & Polarity Drive Tool so you can establish the correct magnet orientation and maintain consistent polarity.
If the magnet becomes too tight to continue seating comfortably with the printed tool, do not excessively force the Drive Tool.
Instead, we recommend using a sturdy metal punch with a flat contact surface and a light mallet to carefully finish seating the magnet.
Use light, controlled taps and make sure the punch is positioned securely against the magnet before applying force.
Please use care during this process. Neodymium magnets are brittle and can chip, crack, or break if struck excessively or unevenly. Your 3D-printed frame can also be damaged if excessive force is applied.
The goal is controlled seating — not excessive force.
How It Works
The Drive Tool requires one 8 mm × 3 mm round neodymium magnet to function.
Simply press one 8 mm × 3 mm magnet into the recessed center pocket located at the drive end of the tool.
With the Version 2 design, once properly installed, this magnet will extend approximately 0.5 mm from the drive surface. This is intentional and allows the tool's magnet to make better contact with the loose magnet you are preparing to install.
The integrated magnet will attract and hold the next 8 mm × 3 mm magnet at the drive end of the tool.
You can then use the tool to position the magnet over the rear pocket of your frame and begin pressing it into place.
Because each new magnet is being oriented by the magnet permanently installed in your Drive Tool, the tool also serves as a simple polarity reference throughout your production process.

Compatibility
This tool was specifically designed to assist with the 8 mm × 3 mm rear magnets used throughout compatible ImpressiPrint magnetic frame designs.
It can be printed and kept directly at your workstation as a simple assembly and polarity tool for individual projects, batch production, or larger production runs.
Because 3D printers, filaments, and individual printer calibrations can vary, the amount of force required to install your magnets may differ from one setup to another.
We always recommend testing your magnet fit on a single frame before beginning a large production run.
A Small Tool With an Important Job
While the Drive Tool makes magnet installation easier, its most important job is helping you establish a repeatable polarity standard for your frames.
Once you've installed the magnet into your Drive Tool and established your desired orientation, use the same tool consistently throughout your production.
This helps ensure that you're not guessing which direction each magnet should face from one frame to the next.
For anyone producing frames in quantity, this simple step can make assembly much more organized and consistent.
